"A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT", an apt description of Bend, the geographic center of the State of Oregon. The mighty Deschutes River cuts a meandering swath through the town of Bend, the headwaters originating in the Cascade Mountains as a small stream at the south end of Little Lava Lake, gaining strength as it first flows south and then reverses direction and becomes a major river flowing eventually into the Columbia River gorge.
Rivers and lakes abound, majestic waterfalls and rushing river rapids dominate the landscape, making Bend a base for water lovers of fishing, kayaking, canoeing, sailing and whitewater rafting.
